Haik, at peril to his own life, releases the document and launches an international campaign to bring an end to the civil rights violations of the Iranian Islamic courts. A meditative visual poem, this film celebrates women, life, and freedom, capturing the concept of revolution through breathtaking visuals and the rich cultural history of Iran.
Paying homage to Iranian cinema, it draws inspiration from renowned Iranian filmmakers like Mohsen Makhmalbaf and Abbas Kiarostami and was shot on 35mm celluloid film to retain its cinema-heritage essence.
The film was initiated by the emerging Iranian/Italian brand PAIRI DAEZA and features twelve Iranian artists from across the globe who have designed the scarves imprinted with the messages of revolution that we see throughout the film.

Lalezar Street (2000, Iran) was built 160 years ago by the order of Iranian king Nassereddin Shah. With its cafes, theaters, and music halls it resembled European style streets in the heart of the Iranian capital, and left many vivid memories in the minds of those who experienced that era. Over time, Lalezar Street gradually lost its glamour, and was filled with lighting stores as an extension of Tehran’s big bazaar.

Iranian Kurds are fleeing persecution from their homeland. But making the perilous journey to Iraq is only the first step in their dream of a secular, democratic Iran.

The journey from Iran to Kurdish Iraq is highly dangerous. But many young Kurds are fleeing to join the 'peshmerga', Kurdish military forces: 'We asked for our rights. instead we got bullets in the head', says one student recruit who escaped from Tehran. Many of the recruits are women escaping Iran's oppressive gender rules. 'Women have no rights. I didn't come here for myself. I came here for my friends. To free them', says one recruit. Komala, the Kurdish organisation helping people escape says it wants to help establish a secular Iran. 'People come to be peshmerga from a society ruled by the Iranian regime. It's collapsed educationally, socially and economically. Komala is trying to give them back their identity', says one peshmerga leader.

In which John Green teaches you about Iran's Revolutions. Yes, revolutions plural. What was the the1979 Iranian Revolution about? It turns out that Iran has a pretty long history of unrest in order to put power in the hands of the people, and the most recent revolution in 1979 was, at least at first, not necessarily about creating an Islamic state. It certainly turned out to be about that, but it was initially just about people who wanted to get rid of an oppressive regime. Listen up as John teaches you about Iran's long history of revolution.
