Though not Ian Fleming's most famous James Bond novel, 1962's The Spy Who Loved Me was distinguished by the unique device of telling the story from the heroine's point of view; in fact, Bond doesn't make an appearance until the book is two-thirds over. This would hardly work in the film world's Bond franchise, so the original austere plotline of the novel was eschewed altogether in favor of a labyrinthine story involving outer-space extortion. The leading lady, a "hard-luck kid" in the original, is now sexy Russian secret agent Barbara Bach, who joins forces with Bond (Roger Moore, making his third appearance as 007) to foil yet another megalomaniac villain (Curt Jurgens), who plans to threaten New York City with nuclear weaponry. Beyond the eye-popping opening ski-jump sequence, the film's best scenes involve seven-foot-two Richard Kiel as steel-toothed henchman Jaws. Fifteen scriptwriters worked on The Spy Who Loved Me; only two were credited, including Bond-film veteran Richard Maibaum.

"Jaws," the steel-mouthed henchman played by Richard Kiel in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), makes a return appearance in Moonraker, turning good guy (complete with a girlfriend of his own) in the process. Bernard Lee makes his last appearance as "M" in this most costly of James Bond's 1970s escapades.

Watch the new trailer for SPECTRE. A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the beautiful and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal. When you think of a dog, usually a Labrador springs to mind… When you think of James Bond, usually Pierce Brosnan springs to mind. He introduced Ian Fleming’s legendary character to many 90’s and early 2000’s kids alike, with four hugely entertaining outings as the British Agent. He embodied the role, and maybe reached a level of physical iconography akin to Sean Connery himself. Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) is my personal favourite of his tenure.

THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH opens with the longest pre-credit sequence in 007 history, lasting 14 minutes and features James Bond (Pierce Brosnan) in the Q Boat in high speed pursuit down the River Thames in London.

Captured by six different cameras, the boat’s mid-air barrel roll was performed by stuntman Gary Powell using Vickers air mortars attached to the side of the boat. The Q Boat is a custom-built vehicle with a V8 engine offering up 300bhp, designed by engineer and boat builder, Doug Riddle.

THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH premiered in 1999 and was directed by Michael Apted with Desmond Llewelyn as Q, as seen in this scene.

Hate to get sentimental, but I remember watching Casino Royale as a little tyke on my PSP back in '06. Only last year in 2021, did Daniel Craig finally hand in the Walther PPK as James Bond, in the excellent No Time To Die. He became the longest running actor in the role, covering my childhood, teenage and now young adult years. Producers Barbara Brocolli and Michael G. Wilson went all-out with Daniel Craig's interpretation, emphasising his Bond's arc with interconnected storylines across five films. I think it'll be nearly impossible for another actor to come in now and rival Craig's work. With the character's heart-wrenching death in No Time To Die, this truly DOES feel like the end of an era... So here's to 60 Years of Bond... James Bond.

Notice this is the only Bond video I’ve done which doesn’t begin with the traditional Gunbarrel Sequence — echoing it’s stylistic absence in Casino Royale’s prologue…
