On the eve of the release of his new film Loveless, the films of Andrey Zvyagintsev will screen at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) before touring select cities. Included in the retrospective are Kino Lorber and Zeitgeist Films titles The Return (2003), The Banishment (2007), and Elena (2011).

The debut feature of celebrated director Andrey Zvyagintsev (Loveless, Leviathan) earns its place in the pantheon of great Russian Cinema. Winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice International Film Festival, the film is a mixture of psychological thriller and road movie, telling the story of two young brothers who must cope with the sudden and unexplained return of their father after a 12-year absence. The three embark on a road trip that becomes a background for self-discovery and the destruction of deeply rooted emotional investments. Straightforward yet satisfyingly layered, The Return’s combines deep psychological exploration with bold statements about the trials of manhood.

FALLEN LEAVES tells the story of two lonely people (Alma Pöysti and Jussi Vatanen) who meet each other by chance in the Helsinki night and try to find the first, only, and ultimate love of their lives. Their path towards this honourable goal is clouded by the man’s alcoholism, lost phone numbers, not knowing each other’s names or addresses, and life’s general tendency to place obstacles in the way of those seeking their happiness.

This gentle tragicomedy, previously thought to be lost, is the fourth part of Aki Kaurismäki’s working-class trilogy (Shadows in Paradise, Ariel, and The Match Factory Girl).

During the Farnborough aeronautical show, a Mirage 2000 disappears in the middle of a demonstration. The French military sends Captains Antoine Marchelli and Sébastien Vallois out on patrol over the North Sea, towards the zone where the Mirage disappeared off the radar screens. The pilots discover the plane concealed by an Airbus A340. The Mirage begins to lock into combat position. At the same time, Marchelli and Vallois receive the order to give up the chase without further delay. But it's too late, the Mirage is about to shoot down Vallois; Marchelli shoots it down to protect his crew member. This incident is the starting point of an enormous set-up aimed at hijacking a French fighter plane for terrorist purposes. A set-up whose final act takes place on the 14th of July in the skies above Paris, over the Champs-Elysées, in the presence of the same two pilots, Marchelli and Vallois.
